ABOUT MAKEDA

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
Parent_endorsed.gif

Makeda Scott is a community-rooted leader, former Chair of the Baltimore County Board of Education, and a candidate for the newly proposed District 3 County Council seat. Known for her steady leadership, deep listening, and relentless advocacy, Makeda brings the same dedication to public service that she brings to everything she nurtures: patience, care, and a commitment to lasting growth.

From organizing school communities to shaping county-wide policy, Makeda works with intention — pulling out what no longer serves the people, cultivating ideas that take root, and making sure every voice has what it needs to thrive. Her leadership isn’t performative — it’s purposeful.

She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Baltimore County Public Schools Equity Council and is a former member of the Maryland Transportation Commission, where she championed access, equity, and smart investments for the future. As a result of her extensive political background on Capitol Hill, her grass roots organizational skills with AFSCME and the success she achieved addressing school issues and concerns as a former PTA President show that Makeda’s talents are acutely needed to represent District 3 on the Baltimore County Council. Makeda is also proud to participate in Baltimore County’s new public campaign financing program — the first in county history — because she believes in a government powered by people, not special interests.

A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, an alumna of both Emerge Maryland and the Campaign School at Yale, and a finalist for the 2025 NAACP Freedom Fighter Award, Makeda has spent her life creating space for others to lead, grow, and succeed.

Rooted in care. Growing with purpose. Leading with consistency. Makeda has the capacity to convey a new vision, mission and programs that the citizens in the 3rd District deserve and need.
