LIST OF ISSUES
Disciplinary Actions
Disciplinary guidelines should be applied equally to all schools regardless of location and should be fair to all students and teachers. School should be a safe place for both children and staff. Children must feel safe and truly cared for in order to thrive.
Before the beginning of each school year, administrators should be trained on policy and changes and how those changes will impact their schools. Additionally, in an effort to be transparent with discipline in our schools, I would like to see future annual disciplinary reports that will disaggregate data by school, gender, age, race, and disability.
College Readiness
Our schools need integrated well organized college readiness programs that prepare students with the resources and support necessary to attend college. Several studies have shown that completing rigorous academic curriculum in high school and providing students opportunities to learn about colleges, financial aid, and campus life helps students overcome socioeconomic disadvantages. Preparing more completely for college in high school tends to result in increased college completion rates. In an ever-changing world, our students need to be prepared to enter college.
School Safety
I seek the opportunity to serve on the Baltimore County Board of Education because I am strongly committed to the belief that the top priority of the Board of Education must be to develop and implement powerful policies that address the safety, well being, and success of all students who attend schools throughout Baltimore County.
However, in order to provide all schools in Baltimore County with the opportunity to have safe learning environments, and to guarantee that all Baltimore County students are safe in their schools from harming themselves or being harmed by others, the Board of Education must secure and allocate funds and resources to Baltimore County schools in the following areas:
1. the development of healthy students
2. the promotion of a healthy student environment
3. the support of at- risk youth
4. the placement of mental health services in all Baltimore
County schools.
Career Preparation
Baltimore County students should graduate high school ready for life and prepared for the future. Students should have the option to prepare for careers while in high school that do not necessarily include going to college. They should have the opportunity to learn about different careers through the education and exploration of vocational, technical and certification programs.
